Hello all, been car shopping for the past 3 weeks or so looking for a new car to replace my 8yo Wish. Test drove many cars from Jap makes such as Altis, Maz3, Qashqai, Subaru XV, Levorg to conti makes such as BMW116d, MB A180, A3, Ford Focus, VW Sportvan, Jetta, C4 Picasso, and even Kia K3.

The 308SW beautiful exterioir and interior design, good noise insulation , comfortable seats and peppy pick up from its tiny 1.2l engine, with the big boot. Plus it is selling at a relatively reasonable price. French makes was not our first choice due to its reliability reputation but the 308SW was just too attractive. We decided to take a calculated risk and booked the car yesterday. SE gave us the highest trade- in quotation compared to other ADs for the Wish, helped us make the decision as well.

Now the anxious anticipation begins. Very Happy

Hi Jango,

Congrats for choosing a Pug. Welcome.

Have you calculate the depreciation per year for those vehicles you mentioned above? Do not be confused by the selling price because some of them got high scrap and some almost no scrap value due to cevs reduction.

Yes we did find out the ARF of each car taking into account CEVS rebate.

9k range: K3, VX
10k range: Altis, 308SW 16", Focus, Jetta Highline
11k range: 308SW 17", C4Picasso, Qashqai, Sportsvan Comfort
12k range: A180,  Sportsvan Highline, Levorg
13k range: 116d, A3

With 3 kids and the occasional road trips up north, safety, passenger and boot space are important considerations. Those eliminated most if not all of the hatchbacks and SUVs, even though personally I really like the drive of the 116d and luxury of the A3. And Altis with 2 air bags is pathetic in this era. In the end we shortlisted C4P, Jetta and 308SW. A second test drive of the C4P confirmed our dislike of the rough diesel engine and roar intruding into the cabin and the "van" like feeling. Jetta for its widely known gearbox problem despite the SE trying hard to convince us the problem has been solved. I hope we made the right choice! Very Happy

Actually they are all very closely priced. Difference of 1K a year is $80 a month.

Ya, there should be many other considerations other than price. The danger though with "just a little bit more installment per month" is buyers end up bursting their intially set budget and overcommit beyond their comfortable financial means.

Usually we like the car that is slightly beyond our budget. That's life.... Very Happy
